Standard Italian (Tuscan/Florentine)

Standard Italian (Tuscan) is the official language not just of Italy, but also San Marino, Vatican City, Switzerland, and some parts of Croatia and Slovenia. It is also spoken in Albania, Corsica, Malta, Luxemburg, Germany, Belgium, Canada, the United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil.
Nearly 70 million people worldwide speak Italian as a first language but even more speak it as a second language. Tuscan encompasses several dialects spoken mainly by the nearly 20 million people who live in Italy’s Tuscany region. The most popular sub-dialect within this region is Florentine, spoken in Florence (Tuscany’s capital city). Tuscan/Florentine has served as Italy’s standard language since 1861.
As with any language, when communicating in Italian it is important to know what circumstances or subject matters require formal vs. informal styles. While Italian-speakers tend to refer to products in an informal manner (especially online), a formal approach is preferred when discussing professional or business services. USA Studios has native Italian translators globally who understand the rich and diverse history of the Italian language/dialects and the people who speak them.

There are over 30 languages / dialects spoken in modern Italy, most of which evolved from Latin and are considered non-variants of Standard Italian. While every region of the country has its own language / dialect, there are phonetic and lingual distinctions within each region from one locale / municipality to another.

Neapolitan, which is derived from Latin, is the main language used by the over 5 million people of Naples (Southeastern Italy).

Venetian, which is a derivative of Greek and Latin, is mainly spoken by over 2 million people in Venice and some neighboring areas. It can serve as its own unique dialect or take on combined elements of both Standard Italian and Venetian.

Sicilian is quite distinct from Standard Italian, so much so that it is considered an separate language altogether. It is spoken by over 5 million people.

Romanesco, which is very similar to Tuscan, is spoken by about 6 million people mainly in Rome and a number of surrounding areas.

Milanese is closely tied to both German and French.

Transcription & Translation

After reviewing your file, we will assign your project to the best-qualified subtitle translator with the relevant expertise needed to translate your content.

The translator will create a time-coded transcript, which will serve as a master document/reference that can be used for translations to other languages of your choice should you need them. This is done for both English to Italian and Italian to English translations. Having a transcript is a major convenience for this very purpose.

The transcript styles most commonly used are either Verbatim (word-for-word) or Readable (lightly edited).

Once the transcript is prepared, our expert translators will localize your content into the required Italian language for your specific needs and target audience(s).
In addition to localizing the subtitles or captions, USA Studios can also localize any graphics or on-screen text that comes with your content either from English to Italian or from Italian to English.

When the translation is finished, the subtitles will then be synchronized to the audio/video, undergoing multiple quality control checks to ensure accurate timing between the text and audio as well as optimal levels of overall quality of your project.

Depending on the language/dialect and the font style used, the length of the translated text and subtitles may vary from the master script. However, rest assured that our subtitle translators take the necessary steps to ensure that your content is not only properly localized but fits within the allotted timeframe outlined by the time codes.
